Trail Difficulty - EASY TO MODERATE

The hike to this formation is an easy 1 mile hike from the highway. You will walk up and around several small washes and over a few sandy walkways.

Photography Tips

This shot is all about the lighting. I find you can photograph this location at eith sunrise or sunset. The image above (by Mark Metternick) patiently waits until the early sunrise starts to walk down the primary hoodoo. Other great shots are at sunset after the sun is no longer on the hoodoos

From Page - drive west on US - 89. Once you cross the Glen Canyon Dam Bridge - continue on US - 89 for 26.5 miles until you see a turnout on your right for Toadstool Hoodoos. Once on the trailhead, head north (following the trail) for approxamelty .7 miles until you see the Hoodoos.

Best Time of Day to Shoot

This location can be photograped at either sunset or sunrise (I have seen good images at both times). I prefer sunset at the background is an open sky which helps to isolate and amplify the unique formation.

The area around Big Water, UT, is a high desert climate where temperatures can vary up to 40-50° daily. In the spring, the temperatures at night can dip down into the 30's° at night to reach into the 80's° in the afternoon.
