SHAPES, SHADOWS & THE MILKY WAY

Joshua Tree National Park is a Mecca for rock climbers with its 5000+ documented climbing routes. But there are infinite compositions for landscape photographers who search them out. Huge boulders form shapely subjects as they dominate many park locations. Sometimes thick and sometimes gangly Joshua Trees become animated against colorful skies at dusk. Natural arches provide drama in front of starry skies when you may be serenaded by howling coyotes. Bright pink cactus blossoms serve as small bouquets at this photographic feast. This is certainly a fun place to develop your skills and a strong section of your portfolio!

Your Workshop Guides

There are hundreds of miles of hiking trails in Joshua Tree NP. This trip will explore a few of the more productive trails, but will concentrate more on easy to access locations. As we do so, we will work with shapes, shadows and night skies. There is always color Joshua Tree, but there is also great potential for black and white photography. Whether you wish to concentrate on the tones and textures of monochrome images, the soft pastels of the desert, or strong forms silhouetted against the sky, you will be sure to be pleased with this photogenic gem.

We will be staying in upscale lodging in 29 Palms, near the Northeast Entrance Station.
