VISTA POINT

A BRIEF SUMMARY OF VISTA POINT

I remember reading a quote from a very famous landscape photographer - when asked how he found his locations to photograph. His reply was “I just drive around until something wonderful catches my eye”. How true, sometimes the most beautiful scenes just appear right in front of you.

I was driving toward Mammoth Lakes when I happened to look over and see this breathtaking vista. I quickly pulled over and was able to capture this image directly from my van. In winter, on the road from Bishop to Mammoth Lakes, CA this wonderful scene presents itself and makes for an easy but stunning landscape opportunity. As wonderful as this location is, lighting is everything and the pink hues from late sun make this place magical.

Trail Difficulty - EASY

I would rate the difficulty of this trail a 1 on a scale of 1-5 (with 5 being most difficult). There is a nice pullout (viewing area) right off of the highway for this location. I actually shot this image from the inside of my van stopped at the pullout.

Photography Tips

This shot is as close to a layup as you will get in landscape photography. It is pretty straight forward and was taken directly from the side of the road (pullout). As mentioned, I shot this image from the inside of my van while parked at the pullout…

What Lens(es) Do You Need

The image above was a 3-shot horizontal pano with a 60mm lens to capture as much detail as possible.
