The Cathedral
Cathedral Gorge State Park, NV
THE CATHEDRAL
A BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE CATHEDRAL
The American Southwest never ceases to amaze. Just when you think you've seen it all, you discover a remarkable place like Cathedral Gorge State Park.
Located in the remote region of eastern Nevada, this small state park is a photographer's dream, featuring a variety of breathtaking formations and cathedral-like spires. These unique structures, carved by erosion in soft bentonite clay, provide unlimited photographic opportunities. The location above stands as the guardian of what is known as the Moon Caves, a must-see when visiting the park.

This shot is fairly straightforward. Take your time positioning yourself at the right angle to capture the Cathedral, ensuring it stands out against the surrounding hills.
From late fall to early spring, the setting sun will illuminate the Cathedral formation beautifully. However, if you photograph during the last moments of sunset, the light on the rocks may become too intense and overexposed. I recommend waiting until after the sun has set and capturing your shot a few minutes later, when the reflective light can enhance the scene. Ultimately, it’s a matter of personal preference
